Wow, three posts in a day! I haven’t done this in ages! I really liked this week’s Weekly Geeks and wanted to make sure I participated. Dewey suggest that we list our favorite reads of 2008 so far and eventually all vote on the best of the best. I love this idea. It’ll also give some great reading suggestions for the 24 hour read-a-thon which is being held on October 18th. You can go check out all of the information on the read-a-thon over on the faq page. So here are my top picks so far of 2008 in complete random order:
1. Mateki: The Magic Flute by Yoshitaka Amano
2. Bonk by Mary Roach
3. When Twilight Burns by Colleen Gleason
4. The Translator by Daoud Hari
5. Farworld: Water Keep by J. Scott Savage
6. When You are Engulfed in Flames by David Sedaris
7. The Dead and the Gone by Susan Beth Pfeffer
8. The Dangerous Alphabet by Neil Gaiman
9. Tweak by Nic Sheff
10. Odd and the Frost Giants by Neil Gaiman
11. Four Letter Word ed. by Joshua Knelman and Rosalind Porter
12. Fablehaven: Grip of the Shadow Plague by Brandon Mull
And even though I’m already 2 over my top ten, I’m adding:
13. The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman
Because I know that it’ll be a favorite of the year even though it’s not out :p
Interested in reading any of the above books?? You can click on the links to read my review and if you find you’re interested you can enter yourself for my BAFAB Week giveaway! I’ll buy the winning person any one of the books listed in my top 13 except for Odd and the Frost Giants because that one’s not available in the US yet. Just leave me a comment letting me know which one you’d like to win. And as an added bonus, whoever wins the BAFAB Week giveaway will also receive that cute little guy up on top of this post. He’s called a Domo and he’s from Target :p This drawing is open to everyone around the globe by the way! Deadline for entry is October 7th and I’ll draw a name on October 8th. Good luck!!

Wow! You’re super-generous.
Don’t talk about The Graveyard Book…I was at Border’s tonight studying (it’s the only cafe open past 8: isn’t that pathetic?!), so I thought I’d see if I could reserve a copy. Twenty minutes later, the worker says that he HAS NO IDEA WHERE THEY ARE. *sob* Why won’t a Barnes and Noble come to town?!
P.S.: for the giveaway, I’d love to win Four Letter Word!
Ooooh…I think I’d want Four Letter Word too! Or the Amano book, or The Dangerous Alphabet, which for some reason I’ve yet to get. If I win I’d be extremely happy with any of those. Thanks for the awesome giveaway, Chris!
Pick me! Pick me! I’m easy. I’d be happy with anything!!
i’m not entering but had to comment that you are an awsome son!

Please enter me too!
Thanks
Pick me! I love the little guy! that’s how I feel on our crowded buses going to and from work every day during rush hour!!! Also, Davis Sedaris has just gone on my wishlist and I would love the Dangerous Alphabet which I’m not sure if it’s up here yet or not. Thanks for doing this, Chris!! Oh – and congratulations for reading all those books published this year, you make my Cool inner Literary Bookworm proud! (she is writing me angry poems right now, my post today explains why….)

Oh, now, see . . . I wasn’t going to enter but then I saw The Dead and the Gone is one of your favorites. I am seriously aching to read that book, but our library doesn’t have a copy (yet) and I haven’t been able to find one at any of the bookstores! What’s wrong with this place?
BTW, the first book, Life As We Knew It, was donated to our library by International Paper. Apparently, they donate a lot of money to our library because — this is so funny — they also donated the children’s copy of An Inconvenient Truth. How Ironic is that? One of the biggest polluters in the area donated An Inconvenient Truth? And, yes, he mentions that paper plants are among the worst! So funny.
What an awesome giveaway. I’d love to win The Dead and The Gone by Susan Beth Pfeffer.
I’ve left a link of this at my blog as well!
Thanks
~ Popin

Your review of The Graveyard Book so made me want to read it! I just finished American Gods and Anansi Boys and bought a couple days ago Neverwhere. I love his writing. Thanks for the great giveaway.
