Summer…ugh…

I’ve been in the summer funk lately. Summer just seems to suck all of the life out of me. Combine that with all of the recent events lately and you get the reason for my lack of blogging. I tend to hide in a hole and just shrink away from it all. But I assure you I’m still alive and functioning. Good things have been happening though. Dad’s doing remarkably well. I have a friend in from Florida right now which is another reason that I haven’t been blogging much recently and the job’s been going really well.

In the midst of all this I’ve managed to finish one book…one book….It’s This is What I Did by Ann Dee Ellis and I’ll write up the review later on, but it was quite good and very different from anything I’ve read before! It’ll count towards Darla’s Irresistible review challenge as Becky reviewed it awhile ago and that’s the reason that it was on my wishlist. It’s written almost like a playscript and it’s a YA book that examines the life of a 13 year old boy who moves to a new town after a traumatic event in his old town hoping to find a better life. But he doesn’t at first. It’s filled with little pictures that divide sections that give clues about what’s going on and lots of palindromes like “Ten Animals I Slam In A Net”…They read the same backwards and forward. Good book and it would be perfect for the readathon this weekend at just 157 pages…I read it in 1 sitting and couldn’t put it down.

I plan on doing the summer goals meme soon to get me back on track. One of those goals is going to be to start blogging more regularly. I’m thinking that if I set a goal for myself, maybe at least 3 times a week, I’ll stick to it. It’s so much easier for me to blog during the fall and spring for some reason. The weather just lends itself to it and I’m in such better moods. Funny how the seasons affect us that way.

Hope everyone else is doing well. It looks like Megan is going to be able to make it into town next week, so I may still be a bit of a stranger for a little while, but I’ll be back soon. Miss you guys :)

  1. I just meet Ann Dee Ellis a couple of months ago and added her book to my TBR after meeting her as I’d never heard of the book or her at all.

    Good luck with staying afloat!

  2. With all that you’ve had going on, I’m not surprised you’re in a funk! Glad your dad is doing well. :)

Have a great time with Megan :)

  3. Hi Chris! I’m glad to hear your dad is recovering and that the new job is going well. And that’s great news about Megan! I hope you two have a lovely time together :D

Don’t worry about us, we’ll be right here when you get back to blogging more regularly. You are missed, of course, but we all know how it is.

  4. “Summer just seems to suck all of the life out of me. ”

I hear that! You have my profound (em/sym)pathy.

  5. Glad to hear you Dad is doing well. That has to be a relief to you!!

I haven’t been blogging nearly as much either, but I am reading alot. I’ve missed “seeing” you around!

  6. ohhhh, good to hear dad is doing so well !!

…and no complaints about the job so that must be doing well also!

And now a visit from Megan! Geez, baby boy.. it sounds like a good summer so far!

But I will say I’ll be glad to see you around more often… It’s lonesome withoutcha around!

  7. Glad to hear your dad is doing well. And I’m glad you enjoyed the book. :)

  8. I hear you on the summer thing. I have been a bit of a stranger this year in general, but the summer is my least favourite season, so I tend to hibernate even if things are going well. Glad to hear things are improving for you. Have fun with Megan!

  9. Well, you do have serious summer down there; it’s barely warm here at the moment. You’re probably in need of a bit of a brain break after all that’s been going on. Glad to hear your dad’s doing well, have fun next week!

  10. I can imagine it’s hard to find one’s old groove or a new groove again after new job and dad’s illness. And the summer thing doesn’t help. Am sure a new groove will come again.

You guys amaze me by your reading talent, honestly. I seem to always be in study mode so I can read non-fiction quite quickly and then I re-read and re-read the same book. Still hoping to find the book of flying so I can read it. Managed to read a fiction book this year…which surprised the heck outta me. So maybe I’m on a fiction roll.

Anyway, stop apologizing about your lessened blogging. Totally comprehend that you have stuff to do. -C

  11. Even though things have really turned around, and are going well now, with your dad and your job and all, the last couple months have definitely been rough ones, and it takes time to recover from all that stress. I’m sure your funk will lift with time. And in the meantime, just enjoy all the good stuff, and don’t worry about us. You know we’ll be here waiting whenever the blogging bug strikes you!

I hope your dad continues to improve and feel better…I hope your job continues to be fulfilling…and I hope you have an incredible time with Megan!

  12. It sounds like you have really terrific reasons for not blogging as frequently. I’m glad your father is improving and the job is going well! Hope you have a fabulous time with Megan!

  13. Glad to hear that news about your father!

And the book sounds intriguing. I’m looking forward to reading your review when you get the chance.

  14. I like the idea of a summer goals meme, I am a bit unfocused myself at the moment. Will be good to have you back blogging more again. Have fun with Megan in the meantime.

  15. Hey, did you read my June totals for blogging? I think it was among my lowest totals yet. I figured out though part of it is when we are busy with social stuff - my blogging time is cut, since then I either blog or read, but can’t do both. i’m kinda glad to know I’m not the only one suffering from seasonal blogging disorder!! miss you, though. HOpe you are having fun with friends, water stuff and Dad getting better.

  16. oh - i know the feeling exactly! isn’t it weird. we forget that we’re animals and think that we live in our brains sometimes.

i guess, because of that, its quite cool actually the way we’re affected by seasons and such!

  17. I’m finding summer a harder time to blog myself. In my case, though its to get out and enjoy the MN summer! I can imagine in New Orleans it is quite a bit hotter than here.
